STEWART GILCHRIST

Stewart is known throughout London for his popular, fast-paced and fiery classes. He infuses his high energy and challenging teachings with yogic knowledge, banging beats, as well as his unique charisma, humour and gift of the gab! His classes include an emphasis on breath, a steady stream of verbal suggestions and strong physical adjustments. For open-minded students looking for a challenge, Stew’s classes will push you to take your practice further. Stewjuri applies the ancient teachings of yoga to the modern world to create a thought-provoking class.
Having trained as Jivamukti teacher in 2003, Stewart’s spiritual journey led him to train all over the world with teachers who have had a profound effect on his unique style of teaching. He offers his eternal gratitude to all his teachers: Sabel Thuram, Chogyam Trungpa, Guy de Bord, David Life, Sharon Gannon, Bob Marley, Gandiji and Swami Niramalanda.
CLAIRE

Growing up in Asia, Claire began practising Hatha from a young age. In her mid-twenties, she discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga – a breathing, moving meditation. She then established a consistent, personal practice with Stewart Gilchrist focusing on yogasana. Working in the film industry she was accustomed to a high octane life. Yoga has brought her life more focus and balance, as well as all the other benefits: the bliss, the clarity of thought and calmness of mind. Having converted almost everyone she knows into practising yoga, she decided to train as a teacher under Stewart and now enjoy motivating and guiding others through their practice.
ARAM

Like many, Aram came to yoga as therapy for serious back and knee injuries and was immediately struck by the healing and transformative qualities of the practice, both physical and mental. Especially the magical effects of the breath. The physical practice of asana (poses) and pranayama (breath extension) led to a greater awareness first of the body and then beyond, to a deeper understanding of the workings of the mind and into the practical and philosophical roots of yoga as a technology for understanding the nature of the Self and as a healing art. Aram completed his teacher training with inspirational yogi Doug Swenson and continues to regularly practice with and assist his longterm teacher Stewart Gilchrist. He has travelled and meditated extensively in search of amazing teachers to help expand his experience. The roots of his practice are based on the teachings of Krishnamacharya and the lineage passed down by him. Classes are dynamic, challenging, filled with good humour and all-inclusive.
TEACHER TRAINING
Throughout 2016, Stewart is running his first independent 200 hr and 500 hr teacher training out of Dog Eared Studios!!
Exhibition of Artwork Rejected by the RA Summer Exhibition
19/06/2014 to 24/06/2014
Salon des Refusés opens its doors for its annual show. Over 100 artists from 12 countries will exhibit artwork that didn’t make it into the final Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
There is a uniquely wide range of genres and styles that you won’t find at the Royal Academy summer show. This year Salon des Refusés has a special street art section – Salon de Street Art – in tribute to the genre’s cultural ‘refuses’/rebel status.
In addition, art therapy sessions, artist workshops, sound art and electronic music performances will run on each of the five days.
FROM THE HISTORY
Happenstance Gallery is again organising an exhibition of paintings, graphics and mixed media works, photographs, sculpture and prints rejected from the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. It is following in the tradition of the 19th century Parisian Salon des Refusés when Napoleon let rejected works be exhibited alongside those accepted ones after artists protested the Salon jury’s rejection of 3000 works.

Lauren Kelly
09/04/2014 to 23/04/2014
Huddersfield sculpture artist Lauren Kelly is coming to Dog Eared Gallery! See it with your very own eyeballs!
Bosse & Baum present Digesting the Devoured Lauren Kelly’s biggest solo exhibition to date, which showcases a new site-specific installation of large-scale sculpture that will expand to fill the space. Lauren works with sculpture and installation, focusing on investigating the power of fetish. Influenced by Eva Hesse’s and Louise Bourgeois’ interest in bodily forms, her work flirts with ideas of fertility and fecundity, while her repetitive forms allude to body parts. The monumentality of scale in her work and its enveloping presence urges you to walk amongst it, whilst the smaller nipple and phallic-like sculptures seduce you to want to touch and squeeze them. Kelly works with a multitude of materials on an ambitious scale creating a visual delight of welded steel structures and soft fabrics, which recall flesh tones, bringing out the nakedness of the metals.
Kelly has recently completed a commission for the Comme des Garcons in New York and her work was purchased by the Royal College of Art for their collection. She was selected by renowned British artist, Richard Wentworth to participate in the group show, Muse, in Lempertz, Berlin. In 2012, Jessica Sainsbury purchased Kelly’s Mount, Frolic, Romp for her private collection, now at Cowley Manor in Gloucestershire.
Lauren’s awards include The International Women’s Erotic Art Prize 2013 and the Cowley/Coutts Sculpture Prize 2012.
